Episode 14: Art and Interpretation

Asia and Africa

Works of art are often difficult, and how to interpret them properly is far from obvious. The question then arises as to what factors should guide efforts at interpretation and the attribution of meaning to a work.

I have been photographing elephants for over 12 years. At first, their presence was so impressive that I couldn’t get my eyes of their beauty, their power, their tenderness, family bond, etc.

After photographing them on two different continents (Africa, Asia), I started to feel them, instead of just photographing them. My feelings were swayed by my childhood memories, by movies, by cartoons, by wildlife documentaries, …

My goal, as an artist, is to blend all these feelings and provide a visceral emotion. “Elephants: Majesty, Magic, Imagination” is a photo series that explores the bond between humans and animals through distinct lenses.
